Boy charged on iPhone theft

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been accused of stealing a woman's smartphone after he slipped out late at night for takeaway.

The boy was charged at the Children's Court with stealing an iPhone worth €400, in Summerhill, north Dublin, on Saturday night.

Garda Eoin Treacy said the boy had been spotted with a group of 10 youths.

John Quinn, defending, said the boy, who has not yet entered a plea, disputed the claims he had been with a group of youths.

"He had to go to the chipper and could not avoid them," the solicitor said, "he was due to collect a curry."

Judge Coghlan remanded the youth in custody to appear again next week.
