Boy (15) had hidden knife

A 15-year-old boy who was caught with a concealed machete, has been remanded on continuing bail at the Dublin Children's Court.

The teenager had pleaded guilty last November to possessing the machete knife as an offensive weapon, along with charges for being intoxicated in public and breach of the peace on the night of September 28 last, in Clondalkin, Dublin.

The teenager was remanded on bail to appear again in May.



Teen facing drug charges

A 17-YEAR-OLD Dublin boy is to face trial over a seizure of €8,000 worth of cocaine in Dublin last year.

He is accused of unlawfully possessing cocaine and possession for sale or supply, at Cameron Street in Dublin 8, on March 29 last.

Judge Clare Leonard held that the case was too serious to be dealt with in the Children's Court and should be sent forward to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The boy, who was aged 16 at the time of the alleged seizure, was remanded on bail to appear again next month.



Streep takes Thatcher role

Two-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep has been transformed for her role as former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher - complete with the Iron Lady's trademark hairdo. The Hollywood star is playing Thatcher in a biopic being made by Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd.

The film, called The Iron Lady, also stars Jim Broadbent as her husband Denis.

Other members of the cast include Anthony Head, Richard E Grant and John Sessions.



Picasso portrait sells for £25m

A Pablo Picasso portrait of his teenage mistress has sold for £25.2m (e29.8m)at auction.

La Lecture, bought anonymously, fetched more than double its estimate of £12m (e14m) at the Sotheby's sale in London.

Painted in 1932, the painting depicts Picasso's 17-year-old lover Marie-Therese Walter asleep in an armchair. The painting attracted strong pre-sale interest with seven bidders driving the price up.
