WITH thousands set to descend on the Phoenix Park for this year’s Bloom Festival, new stamps have been released to mark the event.
The stamps, designed by Dublin-based David Smith of Atelier, will appeal to green-fingered enthusiasts attending the Bord Bia-sponsored festival.
One shows a beautiful silver-medal winning Bloom garden by Wicklow-based landscape gardener Frazer McDonogh. The other depicts a woman holding a basket of fresh garden produce.
Speaking at the GPO, Gary Graham, Bord Bia’s Bloom Show manager, said the stamps are “an invaluable recognition of the success of the show and importance of Ireland’s horticulture industry”.
Aidan Murphy, who is An Post’s leading stamp expert, is hopeful the designs will catch the eye of gardeners at home and abroad.
“Gardening and horticulture are such popular topics and there’s great national pride in the success of Bloom,” he said.
In its eighth year, more than 110,000 are expected in the Phoenix Park from May 29 to June 2.
