Blacksmith threw cocaine in garden after garda chase

A BLACKSMITH caught throwing a bag of cocaine into the front garden of a house after gardai chased him from a bus- stop in Dublin has been remanded in custody for a week.

Aaron Slattery (20) had €70 worth of the drug on him when a garda finally caught up with him following the pursuit, a court heard.

Judge James McDonnell remanded him in custody for a week for sentencing after he admitted possession of drugs.

Slattery, of Cushlawn Drive, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to having cocaine in the incident near his home.

The prosecuting garda told Tallaght District Court she was on duty at Cushlawn Park at 11.50am on March 16 when she saw the defendant standing at a bus stop.

When she approached him, he started to run away down Kiltipper Road before turning back into Cushlawn Park, where he threw a bag into a garden.

When retrieved, it was found to contain one gramme of cocaine with a street value of €70.

Slattery was arrested and taken to Tallaght Garda Station, where he admitted the drug was his and was for his own use. The court heard he had 11 previous convictions for assault, violent disorder and other offences.
