Big fall in city cars dumped on streets
THE number of abandoned vehicles found across the city has fallen by nearly a half, say Dublin's four councils.
Some 398 abandoned vehicles were removed from Dublin's streets in the first seven months of this year -- a steep fall on last year's 747 vehicles.
Fingal County Council said the Government's scrappage scheme was deterring people from throwing away precious cash, while South Dublin County Council listed the recession as a reason.
Figures released to the Herald showed that 137 vehicles in Dublin City Council's area were abandoned from January to June this year. Some 224 vehicles were found in the first seven months of 2010.
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has removed 14 abandoned cars, compared to 60 last year, and South Dublin County Council said 43 cars were abandoned in the first seven months of last year while 11 have been found this year.
