THE biggest foreign-direct investment employer in Ireland, eBay, banked a major Christmas bonus as more bargain hunters migrated online.
The company recorded fourth-quarter earnings above analyst projections, earning $757m (€569m) during the final three months of last year.
The online marketplace recorded a significant rise in mobile customers -- more than 4.3m new users came to eBay through mobile devices in 2012.
The company's online marketplace handled $13bn (€9.7bn) in mobile transactions last year, more than twice the volume in 2011.
"Mobile is quickly becoming the new normal, and we are leading this new way consumers shop and pay," eBay said.
