Banned driver gets 7 months in prison
A RETIRED sergeant helped gardai identify a repeat no-insurance offender after he came across a traffic accident, a court heard.
Michael McDonagh (46) was serving a 10-year driving ban at the time and claimed another man was behind the wheel.
Judge Dermot Dempsey disqualified him for 15 years and imposed a seven-month sentence.
McDonagh, of Whitestown Avenue in Blanchardstown, was found guilty of driving without insurance at Balheary Road in Swords on November 1, 2013.
Retired sergeant Pat Thornton told Swords court the car was lying on its driver's side and McDonagh was underneath another man when he came across the accident.
McDonagh has eight no insurance convictions and admitted to gardai he was driving.
