Banned driver avoids jail

A BANNED driver who drove to visit his gravely-ill father after he discovered his cancer had returned has been ordered to complete community service.

David Doyle (27) was serving a 10-year driving ban at the time.

The defendant, of Ballygall Parade in Finglas, had admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to driving without insurance or a driving licence at Finglas Road in Finglas on April 27 last.

The court heard Doyle's father was in remission from cancer, but on the day of this incident he found out the cancer had returned.

Doyle immediately got into his car to go and see his dad.

Doyle was ordered to do 180 hours community service in lieu of four months in prison and put off the road for four years.
