Banks cut ECB loans

BANKS have cut back on the take-up of European Central Bank loans, indicating a healthier outlook for money markets.

Analysts had predicted banks would obtain almost 90pc of the €225bn loans that have to be repaid today.

But banks took just €29.4bn of six-day ECB funds after banking €104bn of three-month loans on Wednesday.
