Australia seeks oil experts here

GOVERNMENT officials from Australia's Northern Territory are travelling to Ireland to lure workers to ready made jobs created by the region's economic boom.

The area is suffering from a lack of manpower and anticipates 20,000 jobs will be created in the next five years with the development of its major oil and gas operations.

The NT team, which includes Minister for Business and Employment Rob Knight, will be recruiting Irish construction and oil industry professionals.

But they are also keen to recruit doctors, nurses and social workers and teachers at the Working Abroad Expo.

In addition, the Canadian government doubled the number of Experience Canada Visas -- student youth visas -- to 5,000 in 2011 and it is expected that the quota will remain the same for 2012.

The largest number of overseas companies and recruiters to date looking to employ directly from Ireland will be at the event at the RDS on October 1 and 2.
