Angry Minister hangs up in live radio interview
THEY had been warned it would be tough at the top but one government Minister is struggling more than most.
Small Business Minister John Perry (right) lost his cool under pressure and slammed down the phone during a live radio interview.
The Sligo TD brought an abrupt end to the interview on his local Ocean FM after being challenged about his pre-election promises.
He also lashed presenter, Niall Delaney, accusing him of having an agenda.
Minister Perry hung up shortly after the radio host replayed comments he made in the build up to the election.
"On the first government programme within the first 100 days a satellite facility will be restored at Sligo General Hospital," he said in February.
When Mr Perry was reminded yesterday that there were only 15 days left to the 100th day, he said he would be holding a press conference in Sligo on June 17, but refused to renew his commitment.
Mr Delaney insisted there were several texts and calls from listeners to the station asking if Mr Perry could clarify the issue.
However, the minister became agitated and ended the interview.
Defending his actions afterwards, the minister said: "I had said all I was going to say."
However, Mr Delaney said he was surprised by the minister's behaviour.
"You don't expect anyone to hang up when you are just doing your job and asking the question that was coming in from listeners on text and the telephone."
