ambush kills 24 officers
Twenty-four Egyptian policemen were killed when suspected militants ambushed two police minibuses in northern Sinai and fired rocket-propelled grenades, Egyptian security officials said today.
The officials said the attack took place as the vehicles were driving through a village near the border town of Rafah in the volatile Sinai Peninsula this morning.
They said three other officers were injured.
Sinai has been witnessing almost daily attacks by suspected militants since Islamist president Mohammed Morsi was ousted in a military coup on July 3.
