A DUBLIN Airport worker has died after falling from the fifth floor of the Terminal One building.
The man, believed to be from Artane, in Dublin, was pronounced dead at Beaumont Hospital after being rushed from the airport by ambulance following the accident.
The worker, who was in his 30s, was employed by the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) as a member of the airport search unit.
He had been working at the airport since 2006.
The DAA confirmed one of its staff members "was fatally injured when he fell from the spirals at Terminal One" yesterday.
The authority is co-operating fully with gardai and Health and Safety Authority probes into the incident, it said.
DAA chief executive Declan Collier said that, "on behalf of the chairman, David Dilger, the board, and the company's entire workforce", he would like to extend "our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of our late colleague".
"Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time," he added.
The man's death was the 19th workplace fatality this year.
By far the largest number of fatal accidents have been in the agricultural sector, where there have been eight deaths so far this year.
