50pc 'plan to axe jobs'

ALMOST 50pc of all companies in Ireland are planning on cutting down on staff numbers or are struggling for survival, a new survey has found.

The research from InterTrade Ireland found that only one-in- six companies currently see themselves being in growth or expansion mode.

The survey of 1,000 business managers found that as many as 70pc of companies see the ongoing weakness in consumer sentiment as a major negative impact on business.

To face up to the main issues, 38pc of companies have decreased prices in recent months, meaning many are struggling to remain profitable.
