3 Ireland rows back on charge

3 Ireland is to row back on plans for a €5 a month extra charge - a move that will bring relief to two million mobile phone customers.

The operator said that it was postponing a planned monthly €5 4G charge until July 2016.

It had said that it would introduce the charge next month as part of a process where an 18-month "promotional period" expired.

The bill hike was due to occur just as 1.5m former O2 customers were upgraded to 4G access on the network.
