26 dead in China tragedies

TWENTY-SIX people are feared dead in a bus crash and ship sinking in China.

The official Xinhua news agency says 13 domestic tourists were killed and 15 others injured when a bus plunged into a ravine in the southwestern Yunnan during a rainstorm.

Separately, it says rescuers are still searching for 13 people missing and feared dead after their container ship sank in the Bohai Gulf off the coast of northeastern China. It says only one of the ship's 14 crew members has been rescued.

Hillary backs gay marriage

Hillary Clinton is announcing her support for gay marriage.

The former Secretary of State says in an online video that gays and lesbians deserve "the rights of citizenship". She says "that includes marriage".

Mrs Clinton's announcement puts her in line with other potential Democratic presidential candidates for the 2016 election, including Vice-President Joe Biden and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Tel Aviv calls off marathon

Tel Aviv has cancelled a marathon set for Friday because of a forecast of hot weather. This comes after a runner died of heat stroke in a half-marathon during a heatwave last week.

Michael Michalevitch, a 29-year-old soldier, died in last week's race. Four others collapsed and dozens needed medical treatment.

On Friday, when the full marathon was scheduled, Tel Aviv temperatures are forecast to reach 31C. Last week's race was run in heat reaching 32C.

The municipality plans to host a marathon next year.

NYPD arrests five of its own

Five NYPD employees, including three police officers, have been arrested in separate incidents on charges including driving while intoxicated and unlawful surveillance.

Off-duty police officers Joseph King and Dennis Munge were each charged with driving while intoxicated.

Off-duty administrative aide Curline Brown was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
