A €2 debt between brothers turned into a €50,000 lotto win for one delighted sibling.

Cavan born Damien McManus (23) is planning his first ever trip abroad after claiming the top prize from a National Lottery All Cash Platinum Scratch card.

“Declan owed me €2 so I got it off him and bought a National Lottery Scratch Card,” said Damien, who works alongside his older brother in the Mace store where they bought the winning card.

“I won a fiver on that card, so I thought I’d buy another.  I bought the All Cash Platinum Scratch Card and scratched it right away, there in the shop - I couldn’t believe it when I saw I’d won the top prize of €50,000!”

Brother Declan (25), who was working in the shop on Dublin Road in Killehandra when the excitement happened, continued: “I was in the office and heard Damien shouting ‘Come here! Come here!’  I thought the shop was being robbed!”

The delighted winner has big plans for the winnings, saying that a holiday was on the cards, along with a new car and a trip to Old Trafford.

"I’ve never been out of the country before, so I’m going to go on my first foreign holiday. I’d also love to go to Old Trafford when the new season starts to see Man U play!” he said.

Not forgetting his older brother, Damien said he would make sure he got his share of the winnings.

“I guess I’ll have to look after Declan as well – he’ll get his €2 back at least!!”
