€1,000 shop robbery suspect held in jail
A DUBLIN man is alleged to have threatened supermarket staff during a robbery in which a cash box was snatched from behind a shop counter.
Glen Byrne (32) was allegedly captured on CCTV grabbing the cash box, which contained nearly €1,000 in notes and coins. A judge refused bail and remanded him in custody for one week.
Byrne, of Harelawn Avenue, Clondalkin, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with robbery and criminal damage at Supervalu, Neilstown Road, Clondalkin on January 30.
Garda Richard Byrne objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the robbery charge and the strength of the evidence.
It is alleged Byrne stole €966 in cash and damaged a computer screen, valued at €300, during the robbery.
The court heard that Byrne was unemployed and lived at home with his mother.
He was remanded in custody for a week to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday.
