1,000 killed in US Afghan war

The US military has suffered its 1,000th death of the Afghan war. The grim milestone was reached when Nato reported that a service member was killed today in a roadside bombing in southern Afghanistan, according to a count.

The statement did not identify the victim's nationality, but US spokesman Col Wayne Shanks said the service member was American.



Singer Alicia is pregnant

Alicia Keys is pregnant with her first child.

The Grammy Award-winning R&B singer has been dating producer Swizz Beatz, who has written hits for Beyonce, Jay-Z and others. They're engaged to be married at a private ceremony later this year.

Representatives for the couple confirmed the news last night.



Sandra to be at MTV awards

Sandra Bullock is coming to the MTV Movie Awards.

The network says the 45-year-old actress will attend the June 6 ceremony to accept the MTV Generation Award, its highest honour.

The Oscar winner, who has kept a low profile since her public split from husband Jesse James, is the first woman to receive the award. Past recipients include Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller.
