We want to be on the pistes for a family reunion
Q Have you any suggestions with regard to ski holidays in Lech Austria? We hope to go there for Christmas with our 20-year-old son.
Our 23-year-old daughter should be there for the ski season starting the end of November. We live in Limerick but can travel from any airport. Would be interested in package or any suggestions that you might have greatly appreciated.
A Great idea, Getting there for Christmas is the difficulty but think laterally and you will make it.
Lech is near St Anton and is closest to Innsbruck Airport. Crystal are the only ones flying there at the moment. But only from Dublin.
However, from Limerick, you might fly from Cork to Salzburg on the Topflight charter - get a seat only deal, and take the train right over. You can take the fast train from Salzburg Airport over.
Or else fly Aer Lingus to Zurich and take the train down from there.
Q Is it best to buy tickets for Orlando theme parks in advance?
A Yes, but there are exceptions, it is cheaper to buy here if you intend visiting more than once or more than one park, for reason of convenience alone. Some of the longer-stay tickets are not available at the gate.
The price of tickets purchased in advance is not that different from those purchased on the day although there is some saving, the advantage is you avoid queues. It is helpful to purchase through an agent as there is a bewildering range of options available, over 70 different types in Disney alone.
If you know how much time you are going to spend in the parks, it can pay to buy beforehand.
Ticket specialists such as Attraction Tickets Direct can offer good value tickets, A new ATD initiative this year is that you can change the date after you have purchased tickets in advance.
The most comprehensive ticket available is the Orlando Freedom Ticket but it comes in at around €600.
It offers 14 days of Disney (including fast pass), Seaworld, Aquatica, Busch gardens, Universal and Island of Adventure. They also have a Disney and Universal combo, six, five, four and three park combos, and Disney combos with Seaworld or Legoland.
Tour operators usually send out vouchers that are exchanged for actual tickets in the resort. The advantage of this is that if you lose the voucher you can ask for a replacement to be issued. Lost tickets are usually not refundable.
Disney is pushing its Ultimate Ticket (valid for 14 or 21 days) which gives unlimited admission to all four theme parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom), two water parks, DisneyQuest (its indoor interactive park), Pleasure Island and Wide World of Sport.
