My Hols: Darragh Maloney

Darragh Maloney presents Sport at 7 on RTE Radio 1 weekdays at 7pm.

What was your best holiday ever? Playa Blanca in Lanzarote a few years ago. We rented a villa just outside the town and it was fantastic. It was lovely and private and the villa had a swimming pool outside the back patio door which was bliss. It is a nice quiet part of the island but it is becoming more popular every year as people discover there is life outside Puerto del Carmen.

Where did you holiday as a child? We used to spend every summer in Clonfanlough Co Offaly, where my granny lives.

What is your favourite holiday food? I don't think I have a favourite food. If you are travelling in Europe, the food is pretty similar at this stage.

Where would you never go again? Tunisia. We went there in 1997 just as it was becoming a popular holiday destination. The hotel was 5-star and was lovely with its own private beach, but you could not really go outside the complex. Once you ventured out, you were set upon by locals trying to sell you something or bring you somewhere and it was no fun at all.

Where did you go this year? I did not go abroad this year at all but we did get away for a week to Lough Rynn in Co Leitrim. It is a beautiful place and I would love to go back there someday.

Who did you go with? My wife Louise and daughters Kate and Hannah.

Where would you like to go before you die? I think I would like to go back to Australia. I was lucky enough to be there in 2000 for the Olympics, but we were working all the time and I never really had the chance to have a proper look around.

Do you have any holiday tips? No tips at all. Just enjoy every second of it.
