Looking for a bit of a challenge?

Question of the week: I've already started training for the Mini Marathon, and want to enter the runner category.

Are there any races I could do in the next few weeks to prove my fitness? I've already started training for the Mini Marathon, and want to enter the runner category. Are there any races I could do in the next few weeks to prove my fitness? Sharon Dublin

With Ireland experiencing a running/walking boom, there is no shortage of races on the calendar -- ideal for measuring your fitness before the big day on June 6.

If you feel capable of covering 5k, then the St Patrick's Festival 5k takes place on Sunday, March 20. Families are welcome to take part together, and fancy dress is encouraged.

A week later, the irishrail.ie Dunboyne four-mile race takes place in Co Meath. This is another good one, with groups welcome and tea, sandwiches and goodies for all afterwards.

If you're not at that level yet, a good race is the Dublin five-Mile Classic on Sunday, May 15, organised by Sportsworld -- one of the original Meet & Train groups. See www.sportsworld-terenure.ie.
