Leaving Cert results: Rick O'Shea

"If you don't get the points you want, it's up to you to find your way into doing what you want to do. They play it up as the most important year of your life but the hard work really starts after school," says 2fm DJ Rick O'Shea

"I didn't study. I was brainy but didn't have the application," he adds.

However, receiving his results is a moment that has stayed with him.

"All I saw was the A in honours English and it was a mad blur after that," he admits. "I thought I had been too controversial. Clearly I got an examiner who liked independent thought. . . a lucky break.

"I wanted to do Communications at DCU but you needed a ridiculous amount of points to do it, so I did Arts in UCD," he recalls.

Rick celebrated his results in grand style.

"This was before I'd found the demon alcohol so I went to the stage production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in the SFX," he reveals. "No evening of debaucherous knacker drinking for me."
