Trust me, Kay you don't have to spend £10k to look younger
I had a little birthday yesterday -- so I am now officially a year older. Instead of being scared of getting older, I actually felt kind of chuffed with myself. This is simply due to the fact that I am fitter now than I have been in years. I went through a skinny phase in my 20s due to youth, walking a lot and being slightly anxious about, well, mainly everything! But I am not a naturally skinny gal so when I got all settled, too settled, it came back to bite me in the ass. Literally, as in I got myself a bigger ass.
Also, once I hit my 30s I got terribly lazy. I got my own home, weekends became suspended as I would literally waste hours sitting on the couch reading before slinging my ass out of the door to actually do something physical.
Pause and take a big deep breath, because what I did could happen to you. I started walking again. That was step one -- thereafter I started running and step three is that I now also do Bikram yoga four times a week.
One of my best pals has two children. We are both trying to get fit but acknowledge that it would be much harder for her to do the training that I do because of the little ones. We have also had many jokes about plastic surgery!
Which is why Kay Burley's frank disclosure about her facelift last week was so refreshing.
The Sky TV presenter said: "I treated myself to a £10,000 facelift for my 50th birthday. I did it because I wanted to look a little bit better than I was looking when I woke up in the morning. I'm on television, which is a visual medium. I try to do my job the best I can for Sky but I try to look the best I can for me.
"I don't have an issue with my age at all. If anything, I enjoy being older because I'm much more comfortable in my own skin than I was at 30. I've seen more of life."
I like her style and her honesty and I think she was a babe before her surgery so she can only look better now.
Sadly, I didn't have that kind of cash to spare for my recent birthday so I treated myself to a taxi to Bikram yoga on Sunday at 9am. It cost me €15 -- buses don't start until 9.30am on Sundays and my Auntie Babs was making a birthday dinner in her house so the later class was not an option, as being late for dinner was also not an option.
The good news is that I might be getting a cheap facelift for my money as apparently some of the poses make you look younger.
I am so planning 6.30am classes on my holidays. >Dee O'Keeffe
