The beauty awards...
The Oscar frocks this year seemed to veer from vibrant colours to petal-soft nudes and so it proved with the make-up -- well, lipsticks at least.
I would have expected a lot of the 'classic red lip' at this year's awards but in fact many of the stars went for a strong pink lip colour; Sandra Bullock's provided a gorgeous 'pop' of colour to her pale, embellished dress, Maggie Gyllenhaal's complemented the blues and greens of her dress, while Vera Farmiga's (below) perfectly matched the beautifully rich hue of her gown.
If it wasn't a bright fuchsia lip, it was a delicate pale pink, it seems. Young stars Carey Mulligan, Anna Kendrick and Miley Cyrus all went for a soft, pale mouth, but it wasn't really an age thing; Diane Kruger, Kate Winslet, J-Lo, Demi Moore and Helen Mirren all opted for a nude or nearly nude mouth, in all case (except for Carey) the pale shade echoing their outfits.
When it came to eyes, the usually red-carpet reliable, the smoky eye, was noticeable absent, too, although Sarah Jessica Parker opted for a very striking eye to go with her love-it/hate-it Chanel gown and Nicole Richie went for a full-on winged smoky deal. Instead, most stars seemed to opt for lots of definition with liner and loads and loads of lashes (young Miley, pictured above, had some serious falsies going on).
As for hair, there was the usual mix of sophisticated up 'dos but a few big names opted for a similar style that echoed the Hollywood glamour of old. Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet all wore long (immaculately conditioned, of course) hair down and to the side.
And it was nice to see some, including Kristen Stewart (right), Amanda Seyfried and Anna Kendrick, ignoring the fake tan, opting to rock the pale look and looking gorgeous.
