Take a shine to hair duos

Everybody’s hair is different, and some of the products tested, while not perfect for my tresses, may suit yours.

However, I am telling it like it is — as always. Every time I crack open a new brand of shampoo and conditioner I hope that it will make my hair look like I’ve just spent a fortune in a salon. Did any make the cut?

THE BODY SHOP Rain Forest Shine Shampoo and Conditioner, €14.40/€14.40 * * * *

My hair is combination, (oilier at the roots and dry at the ends). This combo tended to make my hair too flyaway, because I wasn’t using enough of the conditioner. When I got the alchemy right, the result was good.

MORROCCAN OIL Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner, €18/€19 * * *

Love the smell of this — it’s got an upscale salon scent. I didn’t love the way my hair reacted to it, sadly: it made my hair feel like it was weighted down. It was almost too de-frizzed, and flat. This worked best when I didn’t blow dry, so if that’s your style, you may adore this.

NUXE Gentle Shampoo for Frequent Use, €11 * *

If you have thick, dry hair, then give this a go. My hair was too fine for its overwhelming powers to de-frizz. This doesn’t come with a companion conditioner, but it was suggested to me that Nuxe’s Huile Prodigieux could be used on the hair. Not on mine! Give this a go if your hair has great volume.

VOYA Silky by Nature Shampoo and Forget Me Knot Conditioner, €20/€25 * * * *

This is a great duo. Voya uses seaweed as its main ingredient and it does wonderful things for the follicles. I didn’t feel like my good-hair day lasted the entire day but I would recommend this nevertheless.

OROFLUIDO Shampoo and Conditioner, €10.50/€12 * * * * *

Here is the salon-in-a-bottle that I was looking for. It smells gorgeous, you use hardly any of the shampoo for a great lather, very little of the conditioner for pure silkiness, and the goodness lasts the whole day long. The packaging is very stylish as well. It’s a big win all round.
