Set the tone for spring

One of the loveliest things about this time of year from a beauty nut's perspective is the release of the spring make-up collections, and 2011 hasn't disappointed.

The quantity of new colour cosmetics landing on counters can be overwhelming, though, and unless you've got a trust fund to rival Paris Hilton's, a few key products are all you'll want to see you through the season.

To help you choose and ensure you don't miss out on any ‘lust-haves’, here's my selection of the best new releases.

Bobbi Brown's Peony & Python eyeshadow palette, €45, is a thing of real beauty. The snakeskin and floral-print fabric exterior zips open to reveal a mirrored lid, two weeny brushes, and six eminently wearable shades of grey and purple eyeshadows. The limited-edition collection goes on sale today -- so get moving right now if you fancy bagging one. Sienna Miller and Rachel Bilson are said to be Bobbi Brown fans and if it's good enough for them . . .

More than 30 products make up the hotly anticipated MAC Wonder Woman collection, which touches down in Ireland this week.

There's a full complement of lip, eye, cheek and nail products in the limited-edition release, together with blue-handled brush sets for eyes or face, metallic make-up bags, false lashes and loose MAC pigments and glitters. Prices run from €12 for the lashes to €65 for the brush sets. While die-hard fans of the superhero will find lots to appeal here, the loud red, gold and blue packaging may put some right off.

Like the comic book look of MAC Wonder Woman but not the price tags? Well check out Essence whoom! boooom!!!!, available throughout March and April, where pop art meets purse-friendly. I'm particularly taken with the eyeliner palette, €3.49, complete with four shades of cream liner and a brush.

Fans of the CND Shellac 14 day manicure have been waiting for new colours to join the permanent collection. A dozen new shades have arrived at last, delighting nail fiends looking for an instantly dry, long-lasting paint job; they run the gamut from nicely neutral to bad-ass black and the Nail Zone in Clerys has all 12.
