My health: Roisin Ni Chualain

DO YOU GO TO THE GYM OR CLASSES?

The gym is great when I have the time, and right now I'm trying to go at least three times a week. Having said that, I took a hot yoga class for a long time and found it really beneficial. I like to vary between working out in the gym and taking classes for a more engaging fitness regime.

DO YOU TAKE VITAMINS OR SUPPLEMENTS?

I take echinacea every morning, as it's known for keeping the immune system healthy. I don't get sick often so it must be working.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN HOSPITAL?

I had my wisdom teeth removed two years ago, which was a very painful experience, but that's it.

WHAT WAS YOUR WORST ILLNESS?

A really bad flu. I'm grateful that I've never had anything more serious and value my good health.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CURE?

Manuka honey is great when you're feeling under the weather. I would also recommend taking it every day, just to keep you healthy. Whenever I feel flu coming on, I take a tablespoon of Manuka honey, with hot water, lemon and a sneaky shot of brandy. It works every time!

WOULD YOU GET YOUR FIVE-A-DAY?

I try to. I drink orange juice in the morning and snack on an apple during the day. I try to have salad with lunch and plenty of veg with dinner.

ANY VICES?

Eating sweets and biscuits late at night is a habit I always try to stop but never manage to. It's that time of the evening when you sit down to watch the soaps and have a mug of tea. Of course, you always have to have something nice or 'rud eigin deas' with the tea. I love that time of the evening, but it's a pity about the calories!

EVER DIETED?

Not really. I just try to maintain a healthy diet and go to the gym. I have tried to cut out bread and other foods before, but I never keep it up. I believe 'a little of what you fancy does you good'!

ANY FAMILY AILMENTS?

Not that I know of, although perhaps I should ask them!

HOW MANY HOURS SLEEP WOULD YOU GET A NIGHT?

Usually I would aim to get eight hours, especially if I'm working the next day on set for Ros na Run. Filming involves long hours and the days can be very intense, so plenty of sleep is crucial.

DO YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH GOALS?

Just to stay healthy and hopefully lose a few pounds before my holiday in April.

DO YOU SMOKE OR HAVE YOU EVER SMOKED

Technically I don't smoke, although I might have the odd one on a night out. That doesn't count though, does it?!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE LEISURE ACTIVITY?

I enjoy both hot yoga and swimming in equal measure.
