How to step into a spring wardrobe

This sweetheart of a dress (right, €40) and structured jacket (€65) combo from Alwear is a perfect spring buy. Don't panic about the amount of thigh on show here, just keep buying those opaque tights (to date, Penneys' 80 deniers in black for €3 are the best ones I've come across). The jacket will easily make the transition into the Irish summer, whatever it brings, while the dress can work with flats and hightops as smart casual wear and proper heels for an evening look.

This multi-tasking Micro-Peel, from KARORA (below, €14.99), works to resurface, smooth and renew dry, flaking and sensitised skin, all of which can help reveal your 'inner glow'. Once the dead cells are removed, the gel, containing cucumber extract, citrus and aloe leaf juice stimulates the new cells in your skin to reactivate the renewal process. This product is also really good at removing resistant tan stains.

Spring/summer continues the neon trend and if you're an all-or-nothing kind of girl then make a bold statement in this Myleene Klass Wrap Dress (right, €62). It might be loud but the cut could not be any more flattering, especially around the tummy area. Pale Irish types will need a respectable covering of fake tan though to carry this off. From

Back in the day, my pals -- the seven impossibly glamorous McCarthy women -- had their finger on the pulse of cool and were generally 55 fashion and beauty steps ahead of everyone else. They still are.

I always associate Elizabeth Arden compacts with them. It was the first communal request when one of them was going through duty free -- back in the day, even visits to the UK would have brought great activity to the Arden counter via the McCarthys.

And here we are in 2013 in the middle of a recession but thanks to the brand you can afford diamonds with the introduction of Flawless Finish Foundation. Infused with micronized diamond powder, this light-reflecting foundation manipulates and reflects light to diffuse the look of imperfections.

New Flawless Finish Cream Makeup (left, €30), is available at Debenhams and Elizabeth Arden counters nationwide from February 1.
