Feel-good daily deals

In these cash-strapped times, bargain hunter websites are grat for finding beauty discounts

They're a relatively new phenomenon here at home, but daily deals websites are proving extremely popular with consumers eager to bag a bargain in these straitened economic times.

I bet Ashley Olsen, who's reported to engage in a spot of occasional haggling, is a fan.

These websites offer a range of significantly discounted deals, from cut-price dinners and weekends away to better-than-half-price reductions on go-karting and, er, adult entry to the Leprechaun Museum.

You might snigger at that one -- I know I did -- but almost 1,500 individuals thought it wasn't to be sniffed at and snapped up that particular offer.

Pampering

The good news for cash-strapped ladies and gents in need of pampering is that a large proportion of the deals available are for spa breaks and beautifying treatments. Whether you've been saving up for laser hair-removal or just fancy getting money off your next hair colour or waxing appointment, these websites can be a great way to get your beauty fix on the cheap.

Obviously, you'll need to at least be on nodding terms with a computer and the internet to avail of beauty deals like these. You can either check the websites regularly for new offers that tickle your fancy, which gets tedious really quickly, or sign up to their mailing lists to receive notification emails when a deal that might appeal to you goes live.

Be sure to book your treatment as soon as possible after purchasing the offer, as convenient appointment times fill up fast. And certainly no salon or spa worth its salt should treat you any differently to a customer paying full whack (after all, it was their decision to offer the deal).

A whopping 2,500 people took up the offer for a €6 fish pedicure in George's Street Arcade's Sole Therapy when it recently popped up on City Deal. They're part of Groupon, who've been around in the US since 2008 and are pretty much the granddaddies of this whole daily deal scene.

A new spin-off of the Boards.ie online community and forums, Boards Deals regularly features offers from very well-regarded beauty and hair establishments.

I just wish I'd spotted the €85 worth of treatments in Waxperts, Dun Laoghaire, for €35, and 84pc off laser hair-removal at Revive Clinic off Leeson Street while they were still available.
