CELEBRITY HEALTH CHECK: Aisling O'Loughlin, TV3 Presenter

Do you have any ailments/health concerns?

Thankfully, I don't have a lot to complain about but this year my sinuses have been playing up. I can't stop sneezing!

How would you rate your energy levels?

Not bad. I don't have much choice really running around after my 10-month-old son Patrick. I'm forever tearing up and down the stairs fetching his things. His arrival has put an end to my sleep-in days too, so it's early to bed, early to rise. Work also keeps me busy -- we're multi-taskers in TV3 so it's a non-stop day. By bedtime, I can hardly put one foot in front of the other.

Do you get your five a day?

Probably not. I know what I'm supposed to eat but that doesn't necessarily translate. Even when I'm trying to be healthy it turns against me. Today, with the best of intentions, I ordered a potato cake for lunch but, on taste, the main ingredient seemed to be salt. Of course I ate it anyway. Waste not, want not.

How would you

rate your stress

levels?

I've learned the hard way to let go of things I can't control, so these days I'm a lot better at breathing deep and counting to 10.

We forget sometimes that we have a choice. That moment when I feel tension coming on, I just remove myself mentally from the situation and whistle. You've got to choose your battles and what you allow to get you down.

How's your sleep?

I've been a very lucky new mum. Patrick goes down at 7.30pm and wakes between 7.30am and 8am. If only I could sleep as soundly.

Do you exercise?

Sporadically. During the summer I went for big walks in the evening as I live in the countryside. Now that the days are shorter I've being doing very little apart from a few stretches in front of the telly. I'm planning a return to exercise

Do you cook from scratch?

I avoid the kitchen as much as possible. Thankfully, my partner loves to cook and starts everything from scratch. He's a fiend for garlic so be advised to hang back if you meet me.

How many alcoholic beverages would you consume

in a week?

I don't drink that much any more -- it doesn't mix with having a baby. I don't even like the taste that much these days. It must be a biological thing to get mothers to focus on the job.

What would you find hard to give up?

Sweets and chocolate. I'm not willing to pass on the fun stuff. I'm all for 'a bit of what you like'.

Do you have any health goals?

Yes. I want to lose a stone and tone up. It's the same goal I've had for years.

Rate My Diet: What I ate today

Breakfast: White bread toast with butter and honey and tea.

Lunch: Potato cake, coleslaw, salad mix, bowl of pea soup.

Dinner: Irish lamb stew (leftovers).

Snacks: Slice of barmbrack.

Beverages: Endless cups of tea, two glasses of water.

Elsa's Verdict: I'd recommend you switch your white bread to wholegrain and bring nuts and fruit to work for a snack.

There are plenty of natural things you can do to improve your sinuses. Begin each day with a warm lemon juice drink as it is cleansing to the nasal cavity and sinuses. Squeeze half a lemon in warm water, you may even like to add a teaspoon of manuka honey and grated ginger.

Continue eating plenty of garlic as it's a sulphur-rich food which helps break down congestion. Onions have a similar effect. Also, increase the use of ginger, chilli and turmeric in your cooking as these are anti-inflammatory and naturally decongesting.
