A purely natural approach for skin
While mineral make-up may seem like a recent phenomenon, Bare Escentuals has been at it for quite a while. Founded in San Francisco in 1976, the skin-friendly brand is now one of the biggest names in mineral make-up.
CEO Leslie Blodgett joined in 1994, having worked at Neutrogena and Max Factor. In 1995 she launched BareMinerals, a 100pc pure mineral range which has become a cult classic. By 2001 it was the best-selling brand on shopping chanel QVC and it is also the USA's number one selling foundation.
The SPF 15 Foundations include titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which also have anti-inflammatory properties, resulting in a calming effect on your skin. It doesn't clog pores and is gentle enough to use on very sensitive skin, scars, rosacea and acne.
The products are in powder form. They can't be adapted into a pressed powder or cream, as this would require binders and preservatives, which the company avoids.
The range has since expanded to include mascara, eyeliner, lipsticks and glosses, as well as high-pigment High Shine Eye Shadows. Bare Escentuals is also home to Buxom make-up and MD Formulations skincare.
