Aromatherapy Associates founders Geraldine Howard and Sue Beechey began their studies in the emerging practice of aromatherapy in the 1970s. As therapists they experienced the effects of essential oils on the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of their clients and started a business with the aim of bringing the benefits of essential oils to as many people as possible, turning daily routine into something more beneficial.
The Aromatherapy Associates brand launched in 1985 and, today, products are sold at hotels, spas and retail outlets in more than 30 countries. It offers an extensive range of products, including bath oils, face and body products and candles.
In salons, treatments are still firmly based on the traditional principles of aromatherapy developed in the 1950s with a focus on massage.
Every ingredient is chosen with a specific role to play. Bases such as regenerative damask rose water are used, instead of plain water and other ingredients include vitamin- and omega-rich plant oils such as jojoba, evening primrose and Arctic strawberry seed oil. These ingredients have a natural affinity with essential oils, helping them to work to their full potential.
The brand supports fair trade, organic and traditional agriculture and products are free from mineral oils, sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), petrolatum, synthetic colours, fragrance and animal derivatives other than silk and beeswax.
