Gadget gal: Sony Xperia Z10 Mini
Envy is a deadly sin.
THIS IS GADGET GAL, NOT GOSPEL GAL.
Back in the very early Noughties, I envied the very small phone of a colleague. All I know is I wanted a teeny-tiny phone all my own. It was so small, like half the size of my palm.
Fast forward to the late Noughties and I was embroiled in iPhone envy, which has been documented on these pages. The vogue for small handsets was long over, and all I wanted was a touchscreen and my email in the palm of my hand. Who cared if the phone dwarfed said palm? I simply had to be au courant.
Ah, you’ve peeked at the photo, haven’t you? Well, Sony has blended my two most envious mobile moments in the Experia X10 mini, a petite handset with the brain of an Android, and a touchscreen that is small, yet powerful.
IT IS VERY CUTE.
So cute! And it comes with all kinds of cool stuff, like really good headphones, an alternative back piece in a chrome-y colour (I got pink, naturally), and a 2MB micro SD adaptor. The screen does all the happening stuff any Android does, with a design that gives the iPhone a run for its money. I am in love with this, except . . .
There’s no QWERTY keyboard! Okay, it’s small, so something had to go, but man, am I out of practice when it comes to the tap-tap-tapping of little fingers. It is too annoying to have to revert to texting with a standard keypad. And predictive text is a total nightmare! I love so much about this little charmer, but this is a dealbreaker.
MAYBE SOMETHING FOR THE YOUNG ONES, THEN.
Seriously! Have you ever seen them text without looking? I’m envious of that, too!
The Sony Xperia is available from operators across Ireland, starting at €219
