Gadget gal: Pink Quick Shifter

Won't have much call for quick shifters around here, ordinarily.

HA-HA! But as Ireland has become a proud member of the Ikea world, you have to start thinking about drills and screwdrivers and such. And since there are many ladies among us who can be considered to be handy, why shouldn't we have a custom-created cordless?

HA-HA! But as Ireland has become a proud member of the Ikea world, you have to start thinking about drills and screwdrivers and such. And since there are many ladies among us who can be considered to be handy, why shouldn't we have a custom-created cordless?

A CORDLESS WHAT, EXACTLY? A cordless multiple head screwdriver, of course. Especially one as well-designed and easy to use as the Quick Shifter. I went and bought myself a drill about a year ago, and it seemed, even to someone as able as I, to be unnecessarily comprised of all sorts of little bits -- literal and figurative -- that rolled under couches or went missing entirely. It was also very ugly.

HORRORS! This electric screwdriver, however, is adorable. I'm not normally drawn to pink objects, but this thing is so good at its job, it can be any colour it wants.

WHAT'S SO GREAT? There are six bits already fitted in the barrel. You chose the appropriate bit, and simply pull it away from the barrel, slide it up, insert it into the shaft, and fire away. No fuss, no muss, no messing about, and you can get those bookshelves that you bought months ago -- the ones that are meant to display all your lovely healthy plants -- and you can finally put them together because you have a simple, effective tool that is easy to use, and to use well.

WELL! The only thing is that it comes in the plastic packaging shown, and really, really deserves a wee box, maybe studded with crystals. While poorly presented by the manufacturers, they did a brilliant job making the product.

The Quick Shifter Cordless Multiple Head Screwdriver is available on gadgetshop.com for £14.99 (€18 approximately)
