Breaking up is so hard to do

To stand by your man may not be popular, but some celebs give it a go even after one partner has strayed, writes Anna Coogan

IT’S THE unpopular choice, to stick with a man who has allegedly cheated.

Women everywhere encourage those being duped to dump their partner, pronto. Yet women often choose to stay with men whose fidelity is in question. So are they courageous to go against popular opinion if their heart belongs to a cad? Or is it cowardly not to demand full faithfulness in love? Or is there a myriad of reasons why women hold on to love when loyalty appears to have walked out the door?

Hillary and Bill Clinton

Hillary and Bill are together in spite of Bill’s 1995-1996 White House affair with Monica Lewinsky which almost brought down his Presidency. (He was impeached but later acquitted in 1998.) Hillary, now Secretary of State, has remained married to her politically powerful husband.

Impression: Any chance they’ll rule the world together?

Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch

Only a few weeks after model Abbey and footballer Peter’s relationship was said to be on the rocks after reports he had cheated on her during a stag do in Madrid, it was reported that Abbey was expecting the pair’s first child together. Will they have a happy ever after?

Impression: Is this stork timely or untimely or what?

Yvonne and Ronan Keating

Recent photos showed mum-of-three Yvonne holding hands and gazing affectionately at Ronan as they strolled through the Bondi Beach area in Sydney, only months after revelations of the singer’s affair with backing dancer Francine Cornell. She was even pictured getting a new tattoo while her adoring husband gazed on.

Impression: Is love back in the air?

Sienna Miller and Jude Law

Blonde actress Sienna broke off her engagement to actor Jude Law in 2005 after he admitted to an affair with Daisy Wright, the nanny to his four children with ex-partner Sadie Frost. Sienna and Jude quietly rekindled their romance earlier this year.

Impression: Do two stars mean twice the column inches?

Victoria and David Beckham

Former PA turned reality TV star Rebecca Loos claimed to have had an affair with the English footballer in 2004, describing it is a “mindblowing” experience. Victoria put the alleged infidelity behind her, moved her family to LA, and became a respected fashion designer.

Impression: Is this what they mean by scoring a penalty shot?

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

SJP’s actor husband Matthew allegedly had a fling with a 25-year-old woman while she filmed Sex and The City 2, a magazine claimed. The actress never commented on the allegations, and proceeded to have twins Marion and Tabitha with Matthew and the help of a surrogate mother.

Impression: Sex allegations and the modern city family anyone?

Coleen and Wayne Rooney

The Style Queen and the Manchester United footballer (who now earns €280,000 a week after signing a new deal with his club) reportedly rowed in Dubai earlier this week, suggesting that Coleen isn’t over allegations that he bedded two prostitutes while she was pregnant.

Impression: Has Coleen reunited with Wayne for the sake of their young son, Kai?
