Hollywood's finest frequently take risks on the red carpet and this year's awards season is no exception with some of the more youthful actresses choosing thigh-high creations -- although, it's worth noting that many have also been spotted in more demure, more wearable on-the-knee gowns. Whatever tomorrow's biggest stars have been parading around in, they all faced some some stiff competition from fortysomething Jennifer Aniston, who showed off her pins in a sexy, short, black-leather dress.
For the most part, however, the older stars opted for floor-length glamorous gowns, while gorgeous Selena Gomez (20) led the way for the young brigade by wearing a short Atelier Versace dress to the InStyle Golden Globes awards after-party.
The actress, who recently split from Justin Bieber, accessorised the dress with Jimmy Choo heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland (22) wore a light grey Pavoni mini-dress to the party, with Giuseppe Zanotti heels and a Judith Leiber clutch.
Her TV co-star Ariel Winter (14) wore a knee length Valentino Resort 2013 multi-floral short dress to last Sunday's party.
These young stars followed in the footsteps of Glee actress Lea Michele (26), who turned heads on the red carpet in a very short hot pink Elie Saab dress at the People's Choice Awards. Another actress who managed to add a splash of colour at the People's Choice Awards was 30 Rock star Chloe Moretz. The 15-year-old star wore a Simone Rocha spring 2013 RTW sheer flower dress and Casadei heels.
Emma Watson (22) won the award for Favourite Dramatic Movie Actress for movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and chose to wear an above-the-knee graphic Peter Pilotto dress to collect her award.
Socialite and businesswoman Paris Hilton, a slightly more mature 31, also opted for short brightly coloured Mary Katrantzou dress.
Singer Julianne Hough (24) sported a flirty new bob and a mid-length Tony Ward Couture dress with metallic pumps.
But it was veteran star Jennifer Aniston (43) who really turned heads when she showed off her edgy side by sporting a leather skater dress by Dior to the awards ceremony which took place last week.
The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev (24) wore a blue Monique Lhuillier dress, Brian Atwood shoes and carried a Jimmy Choo clutch.
Closer to home stunning Fair City star Aoibhin Garrihy (24) recently wore an above-the-knee red dress to the premiere of Les Miserables.
