Be careful of downloads abroad

IF you are lucky enough to be over in Poznan to see Robbie Keane and the boys at the Euro championships, or are in contact with someone who is, they'll be benefiting from the new EU directives on roaming charges: calls can now cost no more than 35c a minute to make and 11c a minute to receive by law.

Remember though, that while data roaming charges are capped at €50 per bill, individual retail prices are not capped and are stubbornly high in many cases -- some charge up to €8 per megabyte downloaded -- up to €40 for a single track or clip. Locating the nearest bar, downloading match results, or even checking the weather for the rest of the week can make you reach your cap very quickly, so try to find an internet cafe instead -- it's much cheaper.
