30 years of mini marathon

This year we are delighted to celebrate 30 years of the Flora Women's Mini Marathon.

From its beginnings in 1983 with almost 9,000 participants, it has grown to a staggering 40,057 women participating in 2011. The mission of the Flora Women's Mini Marathon is to organise a world-class event and enable participants to raise much-needed funds for charities. We are committed to promoting the development of a healthy lifestyle and giving women an opportunity to participate in athletics.

Our new tagline "Every Step Makes a Difference" encapsulates our core values which are focused on Health, Charity and Vitality. Every woman participating in this event makes a difference; improving their own health through training for the event and by the huge amount of money raised each year for charity. Since its inception nearly 780,000 women have entered the event and it is estimated that almost €137m has been raised by the participants since then.

The Flora Women's Mini Marathon is the biggest all-women's event of its kind in the world and the largest charity event in Ireland. We would sincerely like to thank every single woman who has participated in the event over the past three decades for your support and enthusiasm. Each year every individual helps make this day special. We would also like to thank our partners who have supported us through their sponsorship of the event and all of the utilities and volunteers who make this day possible.

Each year we aim to improve your experience and we have developed a brand new website that is easier to navigate and more interactive than ever before. Check out www.florawomensminimarathon.ie for inspirational guidance on training and lifestyle, or, join us on Facebook and Twitter for regular updates and competitions.

We look forward to seeing you all again on June 4 and wish you luck in your training and fundraising.

- Pat Coyle,

Chairman of the Women's Mini Marathon committee
