BBC2, 9pm Without a doubt we're getting fatter, but why? In this new series, investigative reporter Jacques Peretti discovers how decisions made 40 years ago influence the way we eat today.

In America, he finds out how, in the 1970s, high-fructose corn syrup found its way into processed food and soft drinks as a cheaper alternative to sugar.

They examine advances in sensing technology that aims to help people with severe physical disabilities perform tasks including playing music and using computers.

RTE1, 11.05pm The team marks Bloomsday with a special edition of the weekly arts programme celebrating James Joyce. Manchan Magan visits Paris to meet French Joyce enthusiasts, actor Stephen Rea recreates the dinner scene from Dubliners' short story The Dead, while Tom Hickey brings the author to life in an excerpt from the Joe Joyce play The Tower.

Channel 4, 8pm New series. Entrepreneur Simon Davis helps the owners of another batch of stately homes secure the future of their properties.

He begins with a visit to Colebrooke Park in Co Fermanagh.
