In America, he finds out how, in the 1970s, high-fructose corn syrup found its way into processed food and soft drinks as a cheaper alternative to sugar.

Manchan Magan visits Paris to meet French Joyce enthusiasts, actor Stephen Rea recreates the dinner scene from Dubliners' short story The Dead, while Tom Hickey brings the author to life in an excerpt from the Joe Joyce play The Tower.
