UPC viewers could soon be under the Boardwalk's spell
TENS of thousands of Irish viewers may soon get the chance to enjoy the most hyped show in the last decade.
Sky has revealed it is in talks with UPC for broadcast rights to Sky Atlantic, allowing thousands more access to top programmes like Boardwalk Empire.
The new channel, which is currently only available to Sky customers, launched this month in a blaze of publicity.
And Boardwalk Empire has already attracted almost half a million viewers here and in the UK on its first outing.
Now Sky has revealed that the show may soon be broadcast through UPC along with the other top programmes showing on Sky Atlantic.
"As with all channels, we look for as broad a distribution as possible," Mark Deering of Sky Ireland confirmed earlier this month.
The station suffered a disappointing debut with an average of 147,000 viewers.
Boardwalk Empire could boost the channel, however, as it was by far the programme with the strongest pull.
The period gangster drama attracted some 438,200 viewers for its premiere, directed by Martin Scorsese.
