A helping of Masterchef, Mary Portas goes undercover and David Attenborough discovering the Galapagos are all on the menu this evening

Masterchef

9pm, BBC 1

John Torode and Gregg Wallace return to put more keen cooks to the test. The first five hopefuls begin by serving up a dish that showcases their talent – and this year, it carries a prize as the judges’ two favourites will sail through to the third round. Then it’s new challenge the reinvention test, in which they create a new plate of food based on their main ingredient from the first round.

 

Mary Portas : Secret Shopper

8pm, Channel 4

The retail guru heads to south-east London to help a struggling fashion boutique.

The store was opened two years ago by Gemma, who hoped to target trendy young women, but her mother and aunt, who are investors, urged her to broaden its appeal to middle-aged tastes.

 Mary discovers the staff need a lesson in customer service and urges them to streamline their range.

 After a trip to London Fashion Week, Gemma starts to see huge potential in a rebrand – if she can get her family on board.

 

Fair City

Ray turns up the heat on Renee when he discovers she’s short-staffed.

 Rachel comes face-to-face again with mean girl Amanda, while Caoimhe’s worry over Tommy leads to her mind playing tricks on her. When Dan wonders to Robbie if he’s capable of a full relationship in the future, does he really mean with Carol?.

 

Galapagos: Islands of Change

8pm, BBC2

From enormous tortoises and deep-diving lizards to fish-eating snakes and birds that hunt giant, venomous centipedes, the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands is unique and bizarre.

However, the wilderness that inspired Charles Darwin and the theory of evolution is becoming ever-more crowded due to increased migration and tourism. David Attenborough narrates this documentary, which examines how the Pacific archipelago’s animals are adapting to their changing circumstances.

 

The Mentalist

10.15pm, RTE1

Abbott’s former boss Agent Peterson threatens his career – as well as potentially his freedom – so Jane enlists the rest of the team to devise a risky plan to help protect his friend’s future.

Meanwhile Peterson meets with the legislative director to a congressman who is going to evaluate Lena for the post and gives her the evidence. Starring Simon Baker and Robin Tunney.
