Staying in tonight? Here's what to watch on the box

The finale of Broadchurch and the highlights of the Oscars are best of the bunch this evening.

Broadchurch

TV3, 10pm

The second series of the mystery drama, which was greeted with mixed reviews, reaches a dramatic conclusion, and after all the twists and turns, the truth is finally revealed – changing lives for ever. 

We have the verdict in the trial of Joe Miller for the murder of young Danny Latimer. Though nothing can be the same for bereaved Mark and Beth Latimer, who wanted justice for their boy, and were torn to pieces in court. David Tennant and Olivia Colman star.

 

The 87th Academy Awards

RTE2, 9pm

Catch up with all the glitz, glamour and the gongs at last night's ceremony as Neil Patrick Harris hosts the ceremony for the first time. At this stage, you'll know that Birdman was the evening's big winner, scooping the main awards. However, an emotional Eddie Redmayne won best actor with his painstaking portrayal of physicist Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything", while Julianne Moore finally won best actress. Catastrophe

Channel 4, 10pm

In the final episode of the bitter-sweet comedy starring Sharon Horgan  and Rob Delaney a heavily pregnant Sharon picks Rob up at the airport after a trip to Boston and tells him she has invited an old friend from Ireland to be her maid of honour at their wedding. The bride and groom later split up to enjoy their hen and stag nights, both of which spiral out of control.

 

A Cook Abroad

BBC2, 8pm

Monica Galetti, the MasterChef: The Professionals judge embarks on a culinary road trip through the Jura region of eastern France, spending time with the area’s food producers

to sees how their passion translates into world-class ingredients.

 She joins a boar hunt and faces up to the responsibility of eating meat, learns the secret of making some French cheeses and discovers an ancient profession she never knew existed.

 

Digging For Ireland

BBC11, 8pm

Alice Roberts and Matt Williams visit archaeological digs across the country, taking in some of the perfectly preserved Iron Age bog bodies and examining an excavation at Dunluce Castle, Co Antrim.

Plus, the hunt for the site of the Battle of Biscuits Ford, a look at some of the plunder from the Spanish Armada and the rituals surrounding bog bodies, and in a lough in Galway archaeologists make not one but three remarkable finds.

 

House Of Fools

BBC1, 11.50pm

After stealing some Botox from a very famous residence, Vic Reeves decides to test it out on Julie and Bosh – with striking results.

It’s also Rachel’s birthday and Bob Mortimer hopes to get into Erik’s good books by making it a very special and memorable day for her, while Beef’s past catches up with him and he is forced to hide from a very irate butcher (guest star Johnny Vegas).

It’s all violently daft and childish, and that’s entirely the point.
