The Unemployables

RTE2, 9pm

Jennifer Maguire and Darren Kennedy help a 35-year-old mother-of-two who lost her job in youth work in 2007 following recessionary cuts, but now wants to get back on the job ladder. They also advise a 19-year-old from Cork who walked out on his Leaving Certificate Examinations in secondary school and has struggled to find employment since. Together, the pair improve their confidence through the job-seeking boot camp and get a chance to put their new skills to the test.

The Last Leg

RTE2, 10pm

New series. Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker return with three shows culminating in an election night extravaganza.

As well as the usual comic review of the past seven days, the trio look at the latest in the world of politics in the run-up to polling day and are joined by guest Piers Morgan.

Home of the Year

RTE1, 8.30pm

Judges Hugh Wallace, Declan O’Donnell and Helen James examine two properties in Co Sligo – a self-build cob-and-timber frame home, which was completed in 2011, and a renovated cottage with an open-plan design.

They end the viewings at a thatched house in Co Galway, which has a homely open stove in the original fireplace.

Gairdini na Lus

TG4, 8pm

Documentary series filmed over the course of one year, looking behind the scenes at Ireland’s National Botanic Gardens.

The first edition introduces the estate director Matthew Jebb, focuses on the creation of a new bee border and accompanies botanist Emer Ni Dhuill as she collects specimens of the endangered Killarney fern.

Alex Polizzi: Chefs on trial

BBC2, 8pm

The best three chefs from the week face their final challenge – to produce a three-course fine-dining menu for a restaurant full of customers, as well as managing a team of chefs who will be testing not only their cooking skills but also their ability to run a kitchen. At the end of the evening, the owners of The Gilpin and Alex Polizzi (pictured right)decide who will get the job.
