Ryan in for Late Late date with Cheryl
Ryan Tubridy looks set to win the battle of the chat-show hosts when it comes to nabbing an exclusive interview with newly single Cheryl Cole.
RTE bigwig Tubridy is said to be the only man in contention for an exclusive one-on-one with the popstar (26), who will jet into Dublin as a support act for the Black Eyed Peas over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The singer is believed to have ruled out a grilling from the broadcaster's newest recruit, Craig Doyle, due to a conflict in scheduling.
The Saturday-night programme, Tonight With Craig Doyle, is pre-recorded on Wednesdays in order to allow Doyle honour his commitment to ITV, where he presents a sports show.
And while it had been hoped that Cheryl might be willing to pre-record an interview, an RTE insider has revealed how Cheryl will be in rehearsals on Wednesday.
"Of course Craig would love to have her on the show, it would be a great coup as she has spoken very little about the split," said an employee on the programme.
"Unfortunately it's very unlikely to happen. Logistically it would be impossible."
Cheryl, who split from her footballer hubby Ashley Cole two months ago, has yet to break her silence about the break-up on British TV.
However Ryan and his team are hoping they will be able to persuade her to spill the beans on the long-running chat-show.
If successful in their bid to secure the X Factor judge for the Friday night show, producers will more than likely have to make an exception by pre-recording the interview before the show goes out live.
American teen idol Miley Cyrus received similar treatment last December.
When contacted by the Herald, a spokesperson for the station declined to comment on the possibility of the interview.
"It is our policy not to talk about speculation about forthcoming guests so we won't be commenting on it," said the RTE representative.
The petite brunette will take to the stage for two nights in Dublin, Saturday May 1 and Sunday May 2, before moving on to London.
