RTE finally admits daily show axed (six months after herald told you)

RTE has finally confirmed the Daily Show and Four Live have been axed and won't be returning our screens.

The big question now is what will Daithi O'Se do?

The talented Kerryman may return to TG4 for television work as RTE goes through the horrors, financially.

On the other hand, Claire Byrne's career is on an upward trajectory - with many predicting her to take over from Marian Fincuane, whose reported €500K pay for two days a week has raised a lot of eyebrows.

The final confirmation that the Daily Show is dead came six months after the Herald revealed the news to our readers.

Questions about the future of both shows first surfaced when management at the Montrose station shortened their runs last season.

Last night RTE confirmed our report that neither show would be making a return to Irish screens due to cost cutting measures and cited "financial constraints".

According to an insider, staff were informed about the cancellations via email last Saturday by the production company Green Inc. It 'sreported that management could not secure sponsorship for either series.

"They were in negotiations with RTE but there's just no money for the shows this year. There's a possibility that there will be a budget in 2013 but the presenters and production teams have now disbanded," said a source. RTE has yet to announce what will replace the empty week day slots and what their three anchors will be involved with.

Laois native Claire recently filled in on Radio 1's Morning Ireland and may now consider a full-time return to the airwaves.

The former Newstalk presenter is expected to fill in for Cathal MacCoille, Rachael English and Gavin Jennings during the summer months.

Kerryman Daithi (34) has lent his voice to a six-part documentary series called Truckers this summer, while Aran Islands native Maura Derrane has been occupied with TG4 production Feirm Factor.
