SHE may be at the helm of RTE's flagship weight-loss show, but presenter Kathryn Thomas found her inspiration for her new health and fitness business abroad.

She has spent several seasons watching people overhaul their unhealthy lifestyles on RTE's Operation Transformation, and now she will be responsible for similar changes in people.

The enterprising host has founded her own bootcamp, which will run for six weeks every summer on Inish Beg, an island off West Cork, and explained that she got the idea from a camp overseas.

"I went on one myself in Spain and researched some in Vermont at the end of last summer, but I've done them in India and Australia so it was about looking at them and packaging them together," she told the Diary.

"I'll be running it and moving down for the six weeks that we do it in the summer."

With her work on No Frontiers Kathryn travelled the globe, but the Carlow native was intent on keeping her venture close to home.

She spent weeks travelling around the country searching for the perfect place to set up shop, she said.

"I found Inish Beg and drove over the bridge and instantly knew it was the right location. I'm looking forward to getting going. I want to keep it compact," she said.

The week-long programme is not for the faint-hearted, and fitness fanatic Kathryn has drafted in some top-class help.

"We've four personal trainers, nutritionists, chefs and a life coach on board," she said. "You do between eight and 10 hours of classes a day then yoga in the evenings and talks on health and fitness."

It's not only aimed at those who want to lose weight, but also for people who just want to get fit.

"There's a weight-loss programme and a fitness programme, so if you're there for weight loss you're on a different calorie amount - so the food is all the same, but obviously portion sizes are different," Kathryn said.

With a fledgling business to get off the ground and a host of TV commitments, it's a good thing that the busy 37-year-old has said marriage is not high on her list of priorities.

The TV personality has been dating restaurateur Paddy McLaughlin since 2013, but is happy with her relationship as it is.

With so much on her plate, it would seem she would struggle to find time to plan a big day.
