Jenny's fresh designs catch TV guru Brendan's eye

A WICKLOW girl is on her way to becoming one of Ireland's biggest fashion exports.

Jenny Massey has designed a new concept of clothing called End Of The World -- Dawn Of A New Era.

The quirky wares have already bagged the 29-year-old a spot in the final of the Vodafone DIT Student Design Competition -- and caught the eye of Off The Rails' Brendan Courtney.

Jenny will compete against eight hopefuls for a coveted €2,000 prize and the chance to be crowned as Ireland's next big thing in the industry.

Greystones native Jenny's creation was inspired by her grandmother's death and was designed by looking at "fading memories and exaggerated misconceptions".

"As we went through her belongings I began to think about death and generations. What is passed on and what is lost," she told the Herald.

RTE broadcaster Brendan Courtney will take on both hosting and judging duties on the night of the grand finale on March 21 at Vicar Street and has praised the efforts of the entrants.

"I always look for an interesting garment that's a clever idea that will sell," he said. "It's inspiring to see people make individualistic creations that are also, largely, wearable."

Tickets for the show, which is now in its ninth year and repeatedly gets a full house of 1,000 people, cost €25 (€20 for students) from www.tickets.ie.
