I'm not cut out for career in politics, says Blathnaid

BLATHNAID Ni Chofaigh says she won't be following RTE star and former Fine Gael TD George Lee down the political rabbit hole.

Blathnaid (42) is the star of TG4's new political satire Crisis Eile, but while she's playing a political powerhouse in the series, she insists she's not diplomatic enough for Dail Eireann.

"If someone annoyed me in the Dail, I'd shout 'what would you know about that?' I wouldn't be able to hold my tongue; I think I'd find it very frustrating," she told the Herald.

The TG4 series is set in Brussels and follows the trials and tribulations of Maeve Kelly-Clarke.

Blathnaid plays the lead role of Maeve; the newly appointed EU commissioner for "Culture, Heritage, Multilingualism and Climate Action".

The Today Show host admits she based Maeve on various female TDs she's interviewed over the years. "They were all in my head," Blathnaid said.

"I didn't draw on one female TD in particular, but I was thinking of them all."

Crisis Eile airs tomorrow night at 10pm on TG4.
