I never had a chance, says Voice host hopeful Mairead

RADIO presenter Mairead Farrell has revealed that although she auditioned for new RTE talent show The Voice, she never believed she would get the job as co-presenter.

The Today FM broadcaster auditioned to be the co-host, alongside Eoghan McDermott, who ended up landing the gig.

Winning Streak's Kathryn Thomas beat RTE favourite Grainne Seoige in the battle to host the show. Finglas presenter Mairead told the Herald that she never took the audition for the up-and- coming show seriously, because she knew that host Kathryn would land the role.

Giggled

"It was so long ago now, I just giggled at the whole thing, because I knew from the start that Kathryn (right) would get it. She will be absolutely brilliant," she said.

Although Mairead (30) remained tight-lipped about the audition itself, saying "it doesn't matter now, it's over", the Dublin presenter admitted the new co-host of the show, Knocklyon native Eoghan, is perfect for the job.

Mairead told the Herald that although she had never heard about him before, she realised he was perfect for the job when they did a screen test together.

"I didn't really know much about Eoghan when I met him, but when we auditioned he was just brilliant," she said.

Despite being included in the possible line-up for the new talent show, and taking part in last year's Celebrity Banisteoir, Mairead admits that she is not pursuing a career in TV.

"TV will only ever be something on the side for me, radio is my main thing," she said.
